Ask three suppliers to quote the same living room and you can get three very different numbers. The reason is simple once you know it: blinds are priced by area, not per window, and what sits inside the blind varies enormously. Cheap blinds are not automatically a bad buy, but you should know what was left out to reach that price. Here is how blinds are actually quoted in Singapore.
How Blinds Are Priced In Singapore
Almost every supplier here prices per square foot, then multiplies by your measured window area. That is why a small kitchen window and a wide balcony run cost such different amounts even with identical fabric. It is also why roller blinds for a whole flat can land anywhere across a wide range.
Be wary of a flat per-window price. It sounds simpler, but a single price for any window has to be set high enough to cover the largest jobs, so your small bedroom window quietly subsidises someone else’s sliding door.
Also check whether the number is nett. A quote that includes installation and GST is not comparable to one that adds both later. Ask for nett figures from everyone and compare like with like.
What Blinds Actually Cost Right Now
These are 2026 market rates published by Singapore suppliers, not Apex prices. Treat them as a starting point and confirm on measurement.
| Type | Typical market rate |
| Roller blinds | from ~$6 to $7.50 psf |
| Small window, ~20 sq ft | from ~$240 nett |
| Motorized roller or combi | from ~$690 |
| Motorized venetian blinds | from ~$840 |
| 4-room HDB, 5 motorized windows | ~$1,500 to $3,500 |
| Installation trip fee | ~$30 to $50, often waived |
Roller blinds sit at the affordable end, which is why they are the cheap blinds most BTO owners start with. Venetian blinds cost more but handle wet and glary rooms better.
What Actually Moves The Price
Cheap blinds and premium ones often look identical on a quotation. These are the six things that separate them.
| Driver | Impact | Why it matters |
| Window area | Highest | Everything is per square foot |
| Motor brand | High | European motors cost well above budget ones |
| Fabric grade | High | Blackout and designer blinds sit above basic |
| Mechanism quality | High | Where cheap blinds hide their savings |
| Site conditions | Medium | False ceilings, high windows, custom brackets |
| Quantity | Medium | Whole-home quotes beat window by window |
Fabric is the driver most people underestimate. Basic polyester sits at the bottom, while designer blinds and specialty blackout weaves sit well above it, and the gap widens with window size.
Site conditions catch people out. A standard HDB recess is quick work. A frameless condo balcony door, an angled ceiling, or a zip blind system on an exposed balcony needs custom brackets and more labour, and that lands in your quote.
Where Cheap Blinds Actually Cost You More
The savings in cheap blinds are real, but they come from somewhere. Usually the mechanism, the fabric, or the warranty.
Warranty is the one nobody reads. Look at how a proper motor warranty is structured: Apex covers Somfy motors for five years, but the control system, meaning the emitter, receiver, sensor and battery, carries only one year. Onsite servicing is included for the first year, after which transport, labour and scaffolding become chargeable. Fabric sits under a separate warranty again.
None of that is hidden. It is published. The question worth asking a cheaper supplier is whether they publish anything comparable, because the hidden costs of cheap materials tend to arrive in year three.
Are Motorized Blinds Worth The Jump?
For a small bedroom window you touch twice a day, no. For tall windows, high windows, or anything behind a sofa, yes, and most people who install motorized blinds stop thinking about the cost within a month.
One question changes the quote more than any other: which motor. Apex works with Somfy, Nice, Elero and A-OK, and the gap between the premium and budget tiers is significant. If a quote seems unusually low, ask which motor is inside it and check the warranty statement before you sign.
Decide on battery versus hardwired early too. Hardwired needs a power point planned during renovation, not after.
What Quotes Leave Out, And What To Ask
Common exclusions: dismantling and disposal of old blinds, height surcharges, remeasure fees, delivery, GST where nett is not stated, and post-warranty service charges including scaffolding.
Take these five questions into every quotation:
- Is this nett, including installation and GST?
- Priced per square foot or per window?
- Which motor and mechanism, and what is the warranty on each?
- Who pays if the measurement is wrong?
- Is removal of my existing blinds included?
Common Questions About Blinds Pricing
Are cheap blinds worth it for a rental?
Often yes. For a two or three year tenancy, cheap blinds do the job and the mechanism will outlast your lease. Spend the money on rooms you own.
Do custom blinds cost much more than standard sizes?
Custom blinds are made to your opening, so you pay for exact area rather than absorbing a poor fit. For most Singapore windows the difference is modest and the result is far better.
Is a curtains and blinds combo cheaper than doing both separately?
A curtains and blinds combo quoted together is usually cheaper than two separate jobs, because measurement, delivery and installation happen once.
